Prof. Anderl was born in 1955 and studied mechanical engineering at the Universität Karlsruhe, Germany, where he received his diploma in 1979. He received the Dr.-Ing. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Universität Karlsruhe in 1984. From 1984 to 1985 he served as technical manager of a medium sized company. In 1991 he has habilitated and in 1992 he has received the Venia Legendi, which includes the authorization to teach CAD/CAM technology. In April 1993 he accepted the call for the professorship for computer integrated design (Fachgebiet Datenverarbeitung in der Konstruktion, DiK) at the faculty Mechanical Engineering, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany. In May 2005 was named Adjunct Professor of the Virginia Tech University (USA) and in October 2006 Guest Professor of the Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba - UNIMEP (Brazil).Prof. Anderl’s research interest covers virtual product creation, environmentally sound and sustainable product development, technology transfer, and standardization. Prof. Anderl´s main research activities today include information modelling, advanced CAD-technologies, CAX-integration, product data management (PDM), product lifecycle management (PLM, in particular “Green PLM”), product data technology (PDT), collaborative and virtual product development methodologies. Since 2006 he is a member of the Academy of Science and Literature, Mainz and since 2009 he is a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering, Berlin. He has authored or co-authored about 200 papers, 2 monograph, and 8 co-authored books.
